Week 4 EDUC 5313
Part 1
Magic AI is something I am already familiar with. I used the DESE standard 6-8.WH.3.CC.A which is Analyze the rise and fall of classical civilizations to determine their significance to future societies. I then added into Magic AI to also incorporate ISTE standard 2.4.c. which is use collaborative tools to expand students authentic, real-world learning experiences by engaging virtually with experts, teams and students, locally and globally. The lesson provided by Magic AI does a great job of connecting both of the standards I asked it too use in the lesson. One improvement I would make is too break down the lesson more. When it comes to understanding the rise and fall of a civilization it helps to be more specific about what parts of GRAPES you are focusing on. In my opinion I do believe the lesson Magic AI created is rigorous. The lesson is definitely not for a single day. This lesson has a great overall finishing project but for an individual lesson it wouldn't work. On a different note the lesson does an amazing job of applying the ISTE standard. It incorporates primary and secondary sources that connect to the fall of a classical civilization. Students will then use those sources and show through a form of multimedia presentation. The lesson also has them write a reflective essay and since this lesson is for 7th graders I know that will not work. Magic AI connected the ISTE standard to exactly what we've been reading about these past weeks. It connects their learning through technology and real world situations.

Part 2
From Magic AI I tried out the worksheet generator. I had it create a worksheet over the rise of Rome focusing on its government. In the worksheet it starts out by giving a brief synapses of Roman government. Magic AI then adds in multiple forms of questions for students to answer, like fill in the blank, multiple choice, and open ended questions. I think this is a really useful tool to use. It can give you a jumping off point if you don't have a way for students to think about what they are learning (through active research/work). I personally would use this application because when I am coming up with certain lessons I know I am not the most creative. I would use this too give me Ideas or even a base lesson worksheet or reading. I also know that if I put a video into it, it can provide me with a worksheet to guide there listening.
Part 3
Magic AI is a tool I would use with my students and I would recommend it. It was showed to me as at the beginning of my first school year. I think for teachers just starting out this tool allows them to gain ideas and assistance with planning lessons. It can provide ways to expand your toolkit allowing for more interactive lessons. Only using the basic features Magic AI has already proven to be a useful tool. In the article Guidance and Considerations for Using Artificial Intelligence in Oklahoma K-12 it talks about the roles and responsibility and it displays a chart that makes it easy to see what those are for people. By teaching students how to responsibly use AI we can show them how it can be a toold for learning and not used for cheating. When I was in college ChatGPT was just being introduced to the public. At the time this creation was inspirational and crazy to even think about. However, as I went through student teaching it became a savior for me. But I quickly realized students use AI to cheat. So as I used multiple different AI to assiste in making my lessons, and rubrics, the students used AI to cheat. It is so important to have a conversation with students about the responsibilities of AI use.

Hello Zoie,
ReplyDeleteI also had used Magic School before this assignment. My school has a paid subscription for it so I get to use all the great features they have listed. That is good to know about the worksheet generator. I was wondering if their work they created would be a little too generic. I think your assessment on the pacing of the lessons magic school generates is correct as well. Sometimes there is things generated that does not fit within one class period. I think over time that is something it will take into account for regarding lesson pacing. I think that magic school can be a very valuable tool, but I think we need to be careful to not fully rely on it. Overall, great work!
Best,
