Week 1 EDUC 5313 Blog
Hello!
My name is Zoie Riggs, I'm 24 and I am from Kansas City Missouri. Currently I am a seventh grade social studies teacher. This is also my first year teaching and I am just trying to make it through the year😅. My goal for the future is too eventually switch to high school social studies. Another goal of mine is too move as quickly along the pay scale as I can. At the moment teaching is what I see myself doing for the rest of my life. I enjoy being able to be there for students and make connections so I want to stay in a classroom for awhile before exploring the idea of doing something different.
Creative Communicator, 6.b, states create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations. According to Missouri state standard 6-8.WH.2.PC.B students are expected to describe the origins, structure, and essential beliefs of Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Students can create a research based one pager in regards to a religion of their choice. This one pager will require students to create an original work of art in order to display their knowledge over their religion of choice. Students not only have to create images but also repurpose other images that represent the religion.
Using the Triple E Framework and starting with Engagement, I will model my thinking to show students the expectations and level of effort that is required. By showing students not only the expectations but also some helpful editing websites I am providing students with an example and giving them helpful tools for getting started. To Enhance my students learning while I am model my thinking I will be answering questions about the process. If students are able to answer questions in the moment it should better help students when they start their research. Students will have another opportunity to enhance their learning by using a graphic organizer to record their research. Once their research is complete students will move on the final E in the Triple E Framework. By learning about different religions it opens their eyes to real world issues. Two out of three of the religions are facing a real world issue in regards to the holy land. Making students learn about different religions opens their eyes and creates more accepting people. The holy land has been a problem since the middle ages showing students that reasons for conflict don't change.
Not only is the learning technology forward but by using the Triple E Framework it goes a deeper level with the set up and real world experience. I appreciate you stopping in and i'll see you next week for another post with The Riggs Report: Life in the Middle 💟
