Week 3 EDUC 5313

This week I was tasked with reading chapter 6 of the book How People Learn II: Learners, Context, and Culture. I was assigned with better understanding what helps to get students motivated to learn. Students care about the beliefs and values, social and cultural influences, and their own goals. As educators we are tasked with finding the best ways to get students to participate in school. By combining the 3 motivating factors for students along with integrating technology (which they love) I am able to gain ideas on how to best teach my students.  References: Gura, M. (2020). Traditional learning focuses on memorizing content and getting as many questions correct as possible. Students aren't applying their learning like they do with AIW.  Authentic Intellectual Work has three main components that it follows. AIW uses construction of knowledge, disciplined inquiry, and values beyond school. As a social studies teacher I like focusing on disci...

Hello! My name is Zoie Riggs, I'm 24 and I am from Kansas City Missouri. Currently I am a seventh grade social studies teacher. This is also my first year teaching and I am just trying to make it through the year😅. My goal for the future is too eventually switch to high school social studies. Another goal of mine is too move as quickly along the pay scale as I can. At the moment teaching is what I see myself doing for the rest of my life. I enjoy being able to be there for students and make connections so I want to stay in a classroom for awhile before exploring the idea of doing something different.   Creative Communicator, 6.b, states create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations.  According to Missouri state standard 6-8.WH.2.PC.B students are expected to describe the origins, structure, and essential beliefs of Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
